Launch of IDNs for Ukrainian domains postponed until 1 October 2010

Ascio 29.07.2010
The Ukrainian registry has announced that the IDN launch of com.ua and kiev.ua domains originally slated for 22 July 2010 will be postponed until 1 October 2010. The registry plans to start the registration in 2 phases. The 1st phase will be designated for the reservation of Cyrillic domains corresponding to existing Latin domains. Additional launch details will be released as they become available.

Acceptable Characters
  • IDN characters for the com.ua and kiev.ua domains will utilize letters of the Russian and Ukrainian alphabet. The allowed characters may be viewed in the following table (please note that this table is subject to change): http://hostmaster.net.ua/idn/
  • The Ukrainian symbol ” ‘ ” (apostrophe) will not be permitted in the domain’s name.
  • The IDN domain should contain letters of only one alphabet - either Cyrillic or Latin. Letters from both alphabets in one domain are not permitted

The rules for registration will be the same as for the Latin com.ua and .kiev.ua domains.

Also, the registry plans to offer IDN’s for second level .ua domains, however this will be announced after the com.ua and kiev.ua IDN registrations begin.

Additional information will be published as it is received. In the interim, should you have any questions, please contact you Partner Support.
